No more torrents=no changes anyhow
Today marks the end of an era. Sort of.
TPB will no longer give out links to .torrent files. The reason is simple: They're just a waste of space and our time.
Instead we're giving you Magnet links. It's simpler for us and no more hassle for you. It's more resilient than .torrent files and it uses much less bandwidth for those who wants to mirror. Also, since the magnet links are just a hash, it's on every single torrent detail page - so noone knows that you actually downloaded a file or not.
This means that noone can block torrent files without blocking data within a webpage. So far, few countries have implemented such harsh censorship tactics. Countries, particularily in EU, seems to moving towards total censorship so we do all we can to avoid our users ending up with less freedom.
A lot of media has hyped that we're stopping with the torrent files. It's like saying that Ferrari is no longer sellings cars - they're just selling BETTER cars. As are we, we're giving you the best links there are!
And to kinda-quote a bible, "Spilling seed is more severe then all sins, since he defiles his soul in this world and the world to come and he does not see the glory of the sharing."
PS. you _can_ download individual files using magnets - just wait until the metadata is fetched from the network. It is worth it.
GO TPB ! what you do now will be subject of study in the decades to come..
I am talking about these trials, censorships and so on.
I don't know. I fear that eventually TPB will disappear. If I was working with them I would've given up ages ago.
It's just too much hassle for no much return.
I am proud of you guys. You've been there for almost a decade taking all this shit and yet you are still fighting. Very impressive and very brave of you.
You have my respect.
It's fake. It's a bad joke.
double click nothing
what shud be installed and how ?
@TristanLB try uTorrent ;)
Long live Pirate Bay!!!!
but what i mean how to download the torrent like before !
i am going to the page of the torrent selected
before we used to get a file save and add !
now i go i click on magnet nothing happens !
thats what i mean !
Who's this Noone?! ;)
I never really thought about using Magnet links till a couple of weeks ago. It's much less of a hassle like you guys said, it saves space and time.
Yay?
This seems like a smart move, let's hope everything works out!
Long Live TPB!!!
what are those? :P
I tried to copy this link to one of my mates on MSN however the application informed me that this link was unsafe? lool
Thank you and remember to keep up all your good work!
Long live ThePirateBay.. or is it the MagnetBay? lol
"How do you open this in Bitcomet?"
quit using BS software...
yes, this is the may look like solution, but instead of "simpler and no more hassle" it is actually ALOT more hassle. And what if i have a bandwidth limitations? While i will wait for torrent program to hash names, it will be downloading files i don't need. Seems like fucking horseshit pile of hassle to me
Click the torrent in your torrent software, click the files tab near the bottom, right click the file/s you don't want to download, click "Don't Download".
"OH NO THEY GOT PIRATEBAY!!!!"
Oh well.
I support any and all decisions that TPB makes.
I LOVE YOU!!!
SINCERELY,
ME & THE INTERNETZ
THIS IS HOW TO CHOOSE WHICH FILES YOU WANT TO DOWNLOAD
THIS IS HOW TO CHOOSE WHICH FILES YOU WANT TO DOWNLOAD

Not sure bout the bible quote, even if made with tongues firmly in cheeks... I don't like any religion being quoted, its not wat we're about.
Anyways thank you as always u are all beautiful people fighting the good fight
PIRATE BAY FOREVER!!!! DOWN WITH MONETARY-MARKET SYSTEMS WORLDWIDE!!!! Zeitgeist.com for the pirates that aint in th know ;)
Try pressing F5 to show Detailed Information.
It's with the "General-Trackers-Peers" tabs.
maybe i'll have to dig into the chromium config files to make this actually helpful!
Thanks TPB! - Still my fave torrent site for many years now!
and what popups? only popup i see is in azureus(vuze) that ask what files a want to save, where and when, as it did with .torrents..
Cheers...
really? is there so many brainless people out there?
If I put in my own save location the torrent still shows no files, 0b size, and only the name of the torrent. :/
you should put a link on our homepage to download uTorrent or some other witch supports magnets.
it's more like: most of windows clients wont work with magnets (the browser will not recognize the file format, thou it's a standard for about 10 years) you simply have to patch it! some you can do it in the program options (like utorrent) others you have to ask the developers for solutions, or quit you bullshit OS...
I'm glad TPB is still here and still serving the same purpose.
Why don´t u use RSS for auto downloading, it´s much simpler.
Magnets works great by the way, so i agree with the TPB crew that .torrent files is a waste of space and time, magnets is simpler, u just have to give it a chance.
Like "#32. scene4all" says
For people that want to download only certain files, after clicking the magnet link let it open in your torrent client. Once done give your client some time to fetch the data from the peers, then you can go to the files tab and you should see all the files contained in the torrent, right click and don't download the ones you don't want.
I my self use uTorrent mostly with RSS, and it works like a dream!.
Guess a lot of people like me will just go somewhere else , too bad , pirate bay RIP!
TPB will most likely keep uploading of torrents as it's easier for them to qualify the upload and to track peers.
Are you saying you have a url/file association problem or you'd like to add trackers? To add trackers that can be done in most clients. You can also edit the magnet URL and add extra tr fields.
keep giving me errors
someone explain to me what the hell is magnet?
Jag antar att de flesta testat magnet links tidigare. :-)

__________________________________________________________
Your comment about "VIP" members only means all seedbox members with non-magnet-link-compatible-clients should all go VIP so they can upload? That's not really a solution. The seeder should have access to the meta file when logged in so they can provide the data anytime, anywhere, any client they need to use.
Then u have to change the file associations for .torrent files!.
If u have a old .torrent file u can right click on it and open with, the u chose your torrent program ex uTorrent or what ever u use.
i trying to download a movie but keep taking me to my vlc media player not utorret
___________________________________________________________
Well, it's because serious uploaders aren't using Windows machines at home running uTorrent. They're using seedboxes or corporate servers running *nix. haha. r/ruTorrent and Torrentflux look at magnet links' URLs like alien technology.
LONG LIFE THE PIRATE BAY!!!!!!
LONG LIFE THE PIRATE BAY!!!!!
Step by step: get this torrent -> specify a location on your computer, ok -> window-save as- choose a location for your downloads -> 2 click to open inside the UTORRENT.
I click on the 'Get This Torrent' link and I get this,
'Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (magnet) isn't associated with any program.'
What gives? Can someone please explain to me how to download files?
help please!!!!
http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af140/pinkpony100/my%20pic/error-2.png
I'm using Transmission on my iMac and have no idea how to use the magnet links.
Is there something I'm supposed to be doing on Transmission to allow downloading of magnet links?
I'll sail with you till t' end!
Refer to posts #118 and #122.
Thank you.
I hate magnets, simply because i lose a bit of control on my end, and i can no longer keep a working record of the torrents i get (at least not in the same way).
BUT... i LOVE and TRUST The Pirate Bay (technically and morally), so.... That's where it starts and stops for me.
Thank you so much for fighting the good fight, helmspeople past and present (everyone who contributes/puts their asses on the line)... You keep the torch burning, and you inspire millions of us on a daily basis. You really are heroes... Literally/sincerely.
(thx and endless respect to all uploaders, seeders, and 'seeding leechers' as well)
Long live The Pirate Bay!!
You had to leave your homeland and take all that shit from the media and courts but one day you will get a proper recognition , for now all i can say is:
Thank You for all you have done for us you don't even know how much TPB mean for us not only as a source but as a symbol that there still are people willing to secrifice for the greater good and take the fight to the man.
Long live The Pirate Bay !!!!!
BUT!!!
It most certainly will piss off some authorities, but hey that's what we want right?
Go on tpb, send the message, if you fuck with us, you will be fucked back..
Fuckin yeah!
Long live piratebay, long live piracy..
Amen!
Then there's folks crying about "Oh waaah, I won't have any .torrent files to keep things organized as usual". Bullshit - you will STILL have a .torrent file in the same directory they were always saved in.
Then there are the ones we can TRULY ignore, the ones who have NO CLUE HOW THEIR TORRENT CLIENT WORKS, probably due to...NEVER READING ANYTHING!
Great change you made here @TPB! IMO it will thin out the herd and maybe the people left will actually seed instead of just leeching all the time and then closing down their client! ☮
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:c510959c288214fc38f9584bc9ac380aa2d43da3&dn=Switched+at+Birth+S01E19+HDTV+x264-ASAP+%5Beztv%5D&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80
how the FUCK am i supposed to know what the hell that is....im gone.
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent
All .torrent files are there
\/ \/ \/
seedpeer.me
where do the torrent files go when i use magnet link? they do not go the normal folder for me, and tpb "this is the end of torrent files"....please explain.
id like to keep using the site if i can dl torrents as they are upped for later downloading (when i have space/time).
"o and anyone wanting to get the torrent file (FOR UTORRENT USERS ONLY), just click the magnet link, wait until it begins to download, then go to...
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent
All .torrent files are there"
if this is the case, what is the fucking point of getting rid of them? it just makes it much more intensive and time consuming (and far more inconvenient) ...tpb fail.
If you still want something similar to a .torrent file you can right-click the "get this torrent" and click "copy link address" then paste it into a file of your own.
is there a way around this?
Anyway, with a "get metadata" feature added to our clients, we would be able to tell groups of torrents to gather data, but not download. As it is now, most torrent users are going to have to start the torrent and wait for metadata... Then after it arrives in a few minutes, pick and choose which exact files within that torrent you want. Of course, unless you throttle the bandwidth while it is getting the metadata, you will end up with a bunch of partial files you probably never wanted. Then you will have to make mental note to go in there and eliminate those partially downloaded files, after each torrent is finished downloading.
ARRRRGGGGGG !!! NOT exactly user friendly.
Regarding TPB taking your torrent, then add all the trackers you want and then hope they don't clean them out when you submit the torrent.
Like I said TPB most likely will only enforce torrent meta kick-start files on downloads, not uploading the profile.
you should do openwith setting of torrent files instead to open in vlc
Like I said TPB most likely will only enforce magnets on downloads, not uploading of profiles.
good idea anyways..
if i find a movie pack or something and don't want all the movies in it, I'd deselect them, but from what i've seen of the magnet files i no longer have that option have have to take all the files.
is there a way around this i missed?
but after it loaded in Transmission, after a few minutes it loaded like a regular .torrent and I could individually select files like normal by ctrl. clicking it (right clicking) on the torrent and selecting the files from the menu.
A little unnerving at first, but now seems quite easy.
Not a very hard learning curve at all, and it seems to provide extra security!
Thanks guys! I'm glad you're one step ahead in the cat and mouse game!
Woo hoo! they will never shut this down!
; )
But then again I don't make any original "torrents", or, what do we call them now?
Thank you to TPB and members
Are u using Firefox ?
if so, then start Firefox and go to "tools" menu, then "settings" and then "applications" there u have a list of applications and file associations, look on the left side for "magnet" and then on the right side list there should say "use uTorrent (standard)". Do the same thing with "Torrent-fil", and then on the right side list there should say "use uTorrent (standard)" but in your case it will say "VLC" witch is wrong, then change it to uTorrent.
You *already* had magnet links which allowed people who ran torrent clients on their local machines to use them. Removing an option without thinking things through is a very bizarre thing to be called "cutting edge".
I can not see, what the eff am I downloading.
I must wait, up to 30 min, until it displays the file list so I could deselect the unwanted crap.
But yea, the rest remains the same..
And as even american research says: piracy doesn't cause any losses (to Hollywood), since the downloaders are all (90%) poor and even if downloading for free wasn't possible, we, the poor people, WOULDN'T BUY ANYTHING ANYWAY SINCE WE DON'T HAVE A DIME!!
Hollywood and other ACTA supporters/crybabies should instead be happy, since we "advertise for free", if we liked the product.
Give us humane jobs, give us humane salaries, you filthy retarded newriches! The real root of evil here is you! Either kill yourself or let us live as humans.
I did that but Magnet doesn't show up on the left side at all...
The workstation doesn't know what a magnet is.
Just a thought. This looks like a desperate move to save a sinking ship. We may be seeing the end of "The Pirate Bay".
Thank-You Pirate Bay.
What happens when u click on a magnet link on TPB ?
To fix this is easier then u think!.
F@*k you ACTA supporters! Its the Film, Music, and even Software Industry's unpreparedness for the Digital Age that caused its own revenue loss.
Good Job TPB!
What am I doing wrong?
Then your file associations is wrong, it must point to your torrent program!
anyway, cheers to the TPB administration for continuing to take care of "the pirate army".. Keep up the good work
What should I be doing?
FWIW, I'm using Firefox on a Mac. What settings should I be changing?
For those who want to pick and choose which files to download. You have to wait a bit until the list is there, then (on uTorrent) go to the lower portion of the window, to the "Files" tab, right click and choose "Don't download". They will be skipped.
File associations. Firefox doesn't need anything, it does it automatically (or maybe asks you the first time you try to download a magnet, you say "ok" and it's done). If it is not like that on yours, do as directed above, go to tools-settings-applications and make the association there, asking that uTorrent is used for magnets.
That's all, folks. No big deal!
What happens when u click on a magnet link on TPB ?
re #202. DjoserXD
Visit YouTube and search for this "How To Download Magnet Links" there u have videos on how to do !
Can you help me with my problem?
Click on magnet icon, Transmission open automatically but I get nothing on the Transmission screen. No transfers, nothing.
I click on the magnet icon, Transmission opens up automatically and that's it.
I don't see any transfers. Nothing. Transmission just opens.
U know what, the best for u may be to reinstall uTorrent and reassassinate the torrent files.
Hopefully this will fix your problems, but first u need to uninstall uTorrent completely.
anyone got the time to help me with the new download system?
when i click on the magnet icon all i get is a blank option in my Utorrent?
any suggestions please?
/a friend in need
I've never used uTorrent before. I'm using Transmission.
Also, uTorrent doesn't have a version that is suitable for my Mac OSX version.
The same goes for u, just reinstall uTorrent !.
1. Click the "download magnet" link for your desired
'torrent'.
2. For the uTorrent program at least, the download box will open and be blank, showing no files in the torrent/magnet. This is intentional. This is how they keep others from seeing what you're downloading and in turn, keeping you from being sent to prison for a less than valid reason.
3. If you want to choose which files to download, hit 'okay' to start the download. Under the "files" tab on the lower half of the program, it should be blank but soon after, fill in with the files in the magnet link. If you don't want to download them all, pause/stop your download and select through the unwanted ones individually, right click and choose "do not download". It sorts them by folder but not IN folders that you could un-check en masse. Not as convenient, but more than a fair trade off to protect fellow bayers from prying government eyes
1. Learn about magnets like you had to learn about torrents back in the day
2. Bitcomet allows you to view and uncheck files within a torrent while still dealing with magnet links (utorrent will hopefully follow suit shortly)
3. Keep Your Upload/Download Ratio as close to 1:1 as possible....what we do here is based on karma and what you give is equal to what you receive!
4. Movie reviews do belong on Pbay comments! P-bay is my one stop shop for no bullshit movie opinions - you know people don't lie when they have nothing invested!
R.I.P. TPB......
I use the pirate bay a lot less because of the popups.
sort it out you thick twats.
Sorry my bad!
U can go to YouTube and search for "Magnet links & Transmission", the first video is what u are looking for.
*facepalm* #11
lulz achieved nonetheless...
I've watched that video. Problem is, it isn't in English so I don't know exactly what he's doing.
Also, I'm using a Mac. He's using a PC.
And it's a huge hassle for those that download on a different computer then they are working on. You must open the magnet and then find the torrent file once it has started, then move the torrent file over to the right place.
What I want to know is there something to just use to be able to save the torrent file to the correct location after launching a magnet?
https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/7065722/My.Week.With.Marilyn.2011.720p.Bluray.x264.anoXmous
And I can download it!
But Xunlei doesn't support Magnet links.
Does anyone know any Xunlei-like programs that support Magnet links.
Xunlei uses http port 80 (without conflicting with web browser), that's why it's not affected by ISP throttling.
Have u seen this video on YouTube?
"Transmission: How to download music, movies & software online for free (Mac)"
http://thepiratebay.se/help
if someone have solve for this
Go to Google and search for RCDefaultApp. Download and install that preference pane. Now, open that pane and click the URLs tab. Scroll down in the list to find magnet and make the default application: Transmission. Also, make sure you're using the latest version of Transmission. I'm sorry that I can't help in more detail since I use Vuze.
Now, from a different computer, I click download on a .torrent file, and then my BT client in my HTPC downloads it. Easy? Well, not anymore, because now, I can't do it. I have this stupid magnet link, and can't do sweet fucking shit with it.
Nice work guys! You make too many assumptions, like why would my BT client be on the same machine which is searching the net? Ever heard of a seedbox? Rofl. This is just crap. Why don't you just turn your website off for basically a tonne of users. Bah. Future my arse!
To those that have a torrent problem, and CAN NOT download the magnet links, fellow Pirates, plese check you browser, and set the new link with the magnet link in your BROWSER!thse of you who use chrome like me,should have that automaticly!
P.S. TPB!thank you my brothers, for being renegades all this time, for giving us pleasure, for fighting to be free and have the right to do as you wish!if i can be of some sorts of help,i will gladly stand behind you,-and protest, fight or anything !
I love too thepiratebay!
If there's no such app, then maybe I should make one?
Can see that this might be a space-saving step for TPB, but this is NO advantage to me, nor anyone else (unless, I guess if the ISP is watching your every move).
With this new setup, I have to physically (or by remote desktop) sit in front of the computer to download.
Up until this moment, I use a shared dropbox folder to store torrents from any of my 4 computers, where these are started on my server. Any ideas to how this setup is reproduced with these stupid magnetic uris?
I love you PB! can I have your babies?
What a bunch of idiots I love how you talk like this is the future but you only just started... magnets suck. Give it a week and everyone will realise how much they suck and that you're all a bunch of liars-
HINT: Freedom is defined by CHOICE! We chose your site because of the services it offered. Removing the most popular downloading option on the site might not be so wise in the long run...
I keep pressing the "download this torrent using magnet" link things and nothing happens. No window opens, it doesn't load in my program and if I open in a new window it just goes to "about:blank". I've tried it a million times and still the same result every time.
I use Google Chrome and Miro. Thanks in advance for any help :)

This is so stupid and not USEFUL !!!
Only NO BRAIN MAN can create this !!!
Im downloading torrent files every day, but not always have enough free space.
Im downloading the torrent files to my hard drive and when I have free space and a taste on the data, then I download the data .. I love the right to download the data when I want and now I must download the data immediately !!!
This is fucking BAD !!!
This is the END for me with TPB !!!
PS: Sorry for my english :)

Yet another online service that gets extremely popular because of the way it functions mistakenly believes it can change it's entire user protocol and still keep the same traffic.
Netflix learned the hard way & had to back-peddle (FAST!) to save customers. I can only hope & pray TPB is as wise in their hind-sight in the coming days.
BTW. With Firefox and qBittorrent on Ubuntu Maverick it works "out of the box".
posters: Use ____ client
ME: Fuck that, there are tons of different clients and people use the ones they want for a reason, they shouldn't have to switch.
=======================
posters: start download, wait for meta data, then go to "files" tab in BT client and choose don't download
ME: Yes thats an option, but its FUCKING STUPID. what a ass backwards way of doing shit. Then the files are already there and you manually have to go to your download directory and search and destroy.
========================
THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT
I am boycotting TPB from now, till .torrents come back.
Chrome nothing happens, and IE9 is page cannot be displayed. What am I doing wrong? :/
Any more help would be really appreciated...
Has anyone even noticed, before complaining, that when you start a "magnetized" torrent in uTorrent a .torrent file is created if you activate the "Store .torrents in:" settings?
Jesus!
And has anyone even noticed that once you click "Start" on a torrent you can then select which files you want and which files you don't?
And has anyone even noticed that you can actually associate a protocol with a software in your browser?
If you use a BS client that either does not offer the features needed or does not implement magnets correctly, just change! What's the big deal?
Is flexibility such a bad thing? Or is IE9 shit just because it's IE? Right...
Ah but no, it MUST be TPB's fault if most people cannot be even bothered to learn to use their f****** client.
Come on it's ridiculous, it takes half the time to find an answer on google than it takes to come here and bitch about it.
#279: how
I don't even know why I bothered in the first place LOL

In all likelihood, your browser doesn't have any extensions assocated with hashes, so you'll need to install a bitorrent client, such as uTorrent, that will patch your browser to recognize the data it's receiving. People have said firefox and chrome are not working, but IE should.
Yet another online service that gets extremely popular because of the way it functions mistakenly believes it can change it's entire user protocol and still keep the same traffic.

Not at all. Netflix made the right decision to split online viewing and rent-by-mail services. If the company kept it up, they would have to charge more to everyone to keep the doors open, so to speak. $8 for online, $8 in the US (it's never was available in Canada) for rent-by-mail. If you don't like unlimited choice for $16 per month, go rent the damn thing from a local store for $4 per rental. You complain about Netflix but not about your banks raising interest rates through the roof, right? ;) Focus on the
__________________________________________________________
Actually, it's not slow. It's just downloading the .torrent file in the background for you. It's no slower than waiting for TPB to hand you the torrent file anyway, since it's always so fucking slow, I hate 5'o-clock shadow by the time it download at 352 bytes per second. :P
I found out the problem - my software (Miro) wasn't up to date so I updated it. I feel stupid now lol.
Thank you to the Pirate Bay for being an amazing site. I don't really understand this whole magnet vs. torrent thing, but so far the magnets seem to working great!! I think people need to remember this is a free site, you'll never catch me complaining about something free :)
To those, having problems: I use uTorrent and Firefox, Firefox automatically opens uTorrent if I click on a magnet link. If it doesn't work for you, copy the magnet link, click "Add Torrent from URL" on your torrent client (if it doesn't have this feature get uTorrent) and paste the link. Start the download, and when the torrent client got the information about the torrent, click on "Files", and there you can select what files to download. I think most of the torrent clients will be able to use magnet links and select what files to download, when you start the download, eventually, because TPB is the biggest tracker in the world, and they will probably update their clients.

Thanks, Professor. To break it down, a magnet's north pole attracts its opposite, the south pole (positive and negative), thus the idea of magnet links ironically is going to attract negative attention. It will probably make the RIAA and MPAA to dump another billion dollars into trying to stop piracy. Threats, lying, legal action, DoSing, legal-trickery, piracy bills, destroying Internet functionality.. am I missing something else they haven't tried? What other methods does money buy? OH, next is bribes.
As comment 287 said, learn to use your client. Well most people know how to, however, other people are just dumb fucks, sorry dumb fucks if this offends you. However, it is the fact that maybe I don't want a shit load of torrents sitting in my client where I have to look at the word Queued or Stopped or Paused. That shit pisses me off and I'm sure it pisses other people who mass torrent all the time. It looks like I'm gonna have to go back to Torrentday and kat.ph again. Fuck me running.
Thank TPB, I love you and still do, but maybe you could have introduced this slowly and made it a lit
__________________________________________________________
Funny (ironic) you should mention they put factors ahead of quality, regarding interaction with their site, because let's just say that I'm not in the country their made the changes, so I can't comment on that. :) The only thing I don't like is the lack of "scenarios" of issues you can choose from, which usually leads to calling them when you'd rather just fill in form data. :)
Thank TPB, I love you and still do, but maybe you could have introduced this slowly and made it a little less painful, or as least put some oil on a post so we could grease our asses before you raped us. I'm not saying fuck you exactly, you still provide a free service, but fuck you in a sense that this was too sudden. Hell, you'll still see me here once in a while, kinda like a long lost old friend, just to say hello and see what the hell is going on. Plus your the only ones will the balls enough to fight against those corporate aids infested dicks. So much appreciation for that.

Yes, if you're using Torrentflux/Transmission. ruTorrent has a patch but it's mostly in Russian, I believe. If you know how to patch it just by the code, then power to you. Good luck getting your seedbox host provider to patch it. ;)
If you're browser isn't opening when you click download
then you need to go into your browser settings and setup
magnet to open with the application of your choices
( that's if you're app supports magnets )
if you want to choose files then you need magnet to download
first before you select the files you want and the reason for this is because MAGNET IS NOT A TORRENT....
to put it simple they are what they are, a series of links to the torrent you're trying to find and once found they then will download the information in the torrent which means things are back to front for those who choose to select files first.
The positive side to magnet is it holds the hash value of the torrent which is then used to locate copies of the files among the peers, Meaning it has an ability to find/link it self to the torrent your trying to download even if your tracker is down.
This means magnet link doesn't require as much seeders as
a torrent because of its ability to find more tracke
magnet is a way of finding that's why when you
1st start you're download its extremely slow because
its spending that time linking it self to trackers
of you're torrent and once done downloading is as normal.
Seriously? Even if there is no 'select all' in the right-click context menu, selecting the first and shift-selecting the last still works. Hell, even Ctrl+A works.
As far as speed is concerned, the only thing slower than before is the time it takes to find peers and to be honest it doesn't feel THAT slower at least for me, I don't get what everyone is complaining about, I just downloaded a few torrents at the usual speeds.
#301, set the "save .torrents in:" option, use the magnet and start the download, stop it and "Remove And > Delete Data". You have a .torrent you can keep for later.
Speed is the same and people need to understand what a magnet
is, its still the torrent you're downloading saying that it
is slower is saying that the torrent is slow, magnet is a link, it uses its hash to find the files for the torrent,
it then links to peers/trackers and starts downloading the file. * ITS STILL DOWNLOADING FROM A TORRENT *
a magnet is nothing but numbers like a word that your using to input into a search bar....
LONG LIVE THEPIRATEBAY!
You, I've mistaken for destiny, but the truth is my legacy is not up to my genes. True, though the imprint is deep in me it will always be up to me. Up to me.
Free at last. :)
and my 2.2 doesn't get the files via magnet :(
Complain away you freeloader complain away.
HINT: Google 'security risk-tor vs mag (Don't actually waste your time, as you will find little to nothing...hmmm)Just use it as a thought, a 1st theory in your formula, if you will.
2nd thought being the attribute that is repeatedly being stated as the only SOLID "POSITIVE" AH THE HASH. Finally, keeping in mind the opposite polarity = 'Negative', and think rootkit.
Have I completely lost you, or have you now obtained the key needed to open the door?
I've been using magnet links since they where introduced on TPB. But sometimes, when a "torrent" had very few seeders and leechers, using the magnet link could take forever to just fetch the data, and it was even worse if the downloaders used the *.torrent instead of the magnet.
On the other hand, when there are a lot of seeders and leechers - as with a torrent - magnet goes blisteningly fast. Faster than a *.torrent-file...
I use magnet links for all television series I'm following, and only use *.torrents if there are too few seeders and/or leechers.
Rock on Pirate Bay, continue to do what is right, just and unselfish!
It's sad though, that the most users(look above) are retards who don't know shit about computers, downloading etc. Seriously, asking HOW you OPEN a magnet link? Oh my.. And how to select/deselect files to download? Come on...
Keep going, TPB!!
How did you find out? Or were you born with the knowledge of magnet links?
I have vuze v4.7.0.2
Can any one help
TPB 4ever!! Cheers!
(i got that 'mini-heartattack' last night when i saw there are no 'download torrent' links anymore.... and as i never used magnets before i thought for a second that it's over with TPB too....)
But, thaaaaaaank you SO MUCH for being so strong and fighting those bloody acta/sopa idiots! Thanks for giving us our freedom!!!
PIRATE BAY, YOU ARE THE BEST
can someone please help me because i cant use piratebay anymore and its the best torrent site ever ive been using for years. thanks alot
Each torrent should be in its own folder, never in a general (downloads) folder.
___________________________________________________________
The magnet links actually download the torrent file anyway, so if you've configured uTorrent to save meta files in a specific location, that's where you would find them. If not, they're here: http://bayimg.com/AamclAadP
Note this is Windows 7, however, XP is just Doc and -Settings user location.
It says it may be harmful for your computer, because sometimes malware uses that technique to mess things up.
But wait, you clicked on a magnet because you want the browser to "send" it to your bittorrent client. You did it, you know it was you, on your computer, trying to do something you want to do.
Now, the big question: why THE HELL would you say no??????
ERROR:Permission DENIED
Any ideas how to correct this issue?
Currently using BitTorrent
RIP : SUPRNOVA/MININOVA/OINK/BIBLIOTIK !!!
Good - then it will take some of the pressure off. Run a campaign that points out torrents are not being shared - so why the bills to strip our freedom (etc.). Then just link to the press to prove it, using the tactics of politicians against them.
keep up the great work piratebay your the best
and thanks man
Anywag, again this is a terrible idea in general. This is indeed an important moment in the history of content distribution, but not the way TPB crew think.
If everyone follows this lead, there will not be any authoritative (centralized) source for the actual hash values of the files to download. If someone co-opts or disturbs the DHT the whole network of peers collapses. Your downloads will simply never start, instead of taking some time as it is now.
My feeling is that the DHT which is used for Bittorrent (Kademlia) was not designed to withstand the kind of attacks that w
Also TPB loses a very important power with this, and that is the power to censor away truly evil shit like child pornograhpy.
Keep them coming magnets, torrents what have you, just stick it to all the sold out politicians who support this kind of legislation.....
don't need to have those .torrents files everywhere on my disk.
Long live the Pirate Bay!!!
i still don't understand how i can download just one file in the whole magnet. Because I won't download a 10GB file just for 10Mb...
@RushLimbaughIs... : IDK about Bittorent, but μTorrent saves an actual .torrent file, even if you use a magnet link. Look at: %appdata%\uTorrent
PD: Srry for my english xD
LONG LIVE THE PIRATE BAY!!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!
Most problems people are mentioning have already been solved elsewhere in the comments... People need to read through them. Also need to stop making themselves look ridiculous with posts claiming to have been 'betrayed' by tpb. Totally absurd charge. If nothing else, tpb have f'n earned the benefit of any doubt while things shake out... EARNED it.
And, off topic a bit... Endless solidarity with our Anon brothers and sisters that were pinched overnight. F'n legends and heroes, every one.
Love live TPB.
In short, you want to download this stuff for free? You gotta keep up to date. Ideally you'll know a little bit about what actually happens when using p2p software to download stuff too.
As for problems, do a Google search, there's plenty of video tutorials and most p2p clients have some sort of support forum.
@Cass18, It should still work the same as always.
YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAH !
Sail on TPB.... the users will adapt or drown.. deal with it.
LoL at all the people who are IRL "HOW DO THEY WORK?"!
Goodbye TPB, it's been a good 9 years...
Are you using the latest version? Latest is 3.1.2.
I use a ReadyNAS to download files. Now i have to
1) install a torrent client on every PC in the house even if i don't need it
2) everytime i need to grab the magnet, save the torrent, find it in explorer, then upload to the nas, then delete the temporary file in the torrent client
WHY?
I sincerely hope you lose a lot of traffic to this.
Can anyone recommend another torrent site with comments/VIPs that doesnt do this magnet bullshit?
you can't see the files until it starts downloading.
Just install it and point your web browser to proxy at localhost:8118
No more bullshit. See how much faster all your web sites load.
I used to run privoxy on the linux router/server computer at work and I redirected all traffic from :80 to :8118 using iptables. Or :3128 for squid caching proxy, which forwarded to :8118 made the whole LAN nice and peppy. A lot less tech support calls too because of less bullshit malware.
Still hitting download speeds of 2-3 MB/second.
The only issue I have is with the RSS feeds from Pirate Bay not updating on my Android. But I have been assured by the developer of one of the torrent remote apps that they are working on properly parsing magnet-ized RSS feeds or developing a new means of doing so. I would use uTorrent remote, but it never lets me login.
I haven't been overly disturbed by this change and I think some of these people should go out and buy all their music and movies if they can't learn to adapt.
This will all be smoothed out eventually.......be patient dillholes.
FUCK YOU WHINERS!!
FUCK YOU WHINERS!!
Even a School grader here in Hong Kong knows how Magnets work!
"To Adapt is to Survive"
LONG LIVE THE PIRATE BAY!!
But please people. do not complain, nobody likes that, women dont like that, TPB don like that.
Be thankfull for TPB, and for your life...
NEVER WHINE, BITCH, COMPLAIN!
For people who are having trouble with magnet download, just click the link and wait a few seconds. You need a installed (not even it, if you use some versions of uTorrent) torrent program, like vuze(former azureus), bitcomet, uTorrent and others. I personally recommend uTorrent. Simple, light and efficient.
And as other user mentioned, TPB you have my respect and admiration.
FOR ANDROID USERS,USE aTorrent app...
Some time ago, an excellent person posted this "Magnet How To" information on TorrentFreak.
Thank you kind person!
I saved it for posterity. I’m glad I did so now I can share it with all of you.
HOW TO ASSOCIATE MAGNET LINKS WITH A CLIENT USING FIREFOX
If you are using Firefox and you try to download a magnet link, Firefox may give you a message regarding not knowing how to download it because it is not associated with any program. Here is how to fix that...
1. Make sure your bittorrent client has DHT turned on. Also turn on PEX if it is listed. Most clients support magnets. Check to make sure your client does. Utorrent versions after 1.8 support magnets. I use uTorrent 1.8.3.
2. Open Firefox. In the address bar, type “about:config†(wit
3. You will see a list of Firefox settings. Anywhere in the white space, right click. Select “Newâ€, and then “Booleanâ€.
4. In the blank box that pops up, type “network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet†(without the quotes).
5. When asked to set it “True†or “Falseâ€, set it to “Falseâ€. The reason we set it to False is because we want to force Firefox to popup an association box when we select our magnet link.
6. Now, lets make our association permanent. Go to The Pirate Bay and find a torrent you are interested in. Click on the magnet link. Firefox should now popup a message box asking you what program you want to associate with magnet links. If your client is not listed, use the browse feature to find your client of choice. When you have selected your client, there should be a selection box to make the association permanent so
7. If you are used to downloading .torrents then you are used to that slow delay from clicking to actually arriving at your client. With magnet links, it’s almost instantaneous. Once you click the magnet link, it’s in your client. Once you have it in your client, it may take a few seconds or minutes to get started, but once it does, it will take off just like the .torrents (provided the
I’m not sure how it is done in other clients, but I can give you the example from uTorrent. If you use a different client, perhaps you can extrapolate from this information on how to do it in your particular client.
1. Select the file in uTorrent by clicking it once. This emphasizes the file.
2. Look at the tabs at the bottom of your client. One of those tabs is named “Filesâ€. Click on that tab.
3. It should show you the files listed. Select the files you DON’T want and right click. You should see the selection “Don’t Downloadâ€. Click it.
HAPPY MAGNETING EVERYONE! (I think I just invented a new word)
Mr.Panda
the information you type in firefox is...
network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet
We support you!
Never stop!!! No matter what!!!
Thank you so much guys for everything! Keep on fighting!
We will never fall. But if that day comes, let's make it a hell of a ride getting there. Give them a fight they 've never seen before!
Where else can people who need actual .torrent files go?
Suggestions here so far were
KickAssTorrents demonoid onebigtorrent
What else, ishount, torrentreactor, eztv.it ? What is stable?
Keep up the good fight.
NEVER CENSOR THE INTERNET!
ps. Hey Chip Im on The Pirate Bay :)

Torrent files - almost instant download start, even if it is still finding peers.
Magnet link? Took 4 minutes to actually start displaying and downloading the file i wanted.
But download speeds seem the same, as to be expected, and i guess a couple of minutes isn't a huge issue.
Might annoy me for some small files though..
Just wondering. Cool either way.

Well, too fukkin bad, my friend. Coz it's because it's people like YOU who end up causing this kind of trouble!
http://www.tixati.com/
But I ask you to support forward utorrent because Miro can not setup without administrator rights, and BitTorrent is harder to use than utorrent. utorrent can remember my torrents so I only have to start utorrent client and this starts the seeds also. BitTorrent can't remember my torrents to upload? I always have to add again the torrent files when I restart the computer??
utorrent has boss button and I can hide utorrent but Bittorren can't be disappeared. How can i hide BitTorrent program?
"0 torrents has been removed, and 0 torrents will ever be removed"
If by 0 they meant every single .torrent file on the site, then they made good on their promise. It ill matters, though. It works perfectly fine with BitTorrent.
Plain and simply incorrect. Shame on you for spreading misinformation.
Try pressing the X button. Or the minimize button. Not difficult. BitTorrent isn't as user-friendly as uTorrent is, true, but it's better for advanced users.
I am new to this MAGNET thing. Before when I use to download the torrent to my hard disk and on opening it, I use to get the file list of the torrent.
Now, when I click on GET THIS TORRENT, it opens up in UTorrent without any file list at all. I mean how do I know what I am downloading.
Also, now how do I save these magnet files on my local hard disk so that I can download it as per my convinience
(Problems with magnets links are fixed by upgrading your torrent client!)
Can I know what should I do to get this working again? I have tried Utorrent and Bittorrent, change the setting on my firefox as recommended, all not working.
Can someone please help. Thanks
I believe what you're doing is going to cost us all a LOT of seeders. As soon as the download is done, they'll move the files to where they want them and stop seeding. Sure, they could go into the preferences in the torrent client and change the default download directory for every torrent, but let's face it, most won't bother with that, and they won't bother with Relocate, either. They'll simply stop seeding.
I just uploaded my 8th set of sexy movie clips. The torrent file had about 25 good trackers in it. I decided to try to start it using the magnet link and found that all but three trackers were missing. Am I supposed to add them one at a time manually for
Am I supposed to add the trackers one at a time manually for everything I share? Please, someone answer that question. In this case, I waited about ten minutes for the metedata to be fetched, and finally gave up and used the torrent file which, thankfully, was still available.
Extra info for people still having trouble by clicking on the magnet link: Right-click it and select "Copy URL to clipboard" and then, in Bittorrent anyway, do "File/Add torrent from URL". The magnet should already be filled in and all you have to do is click OK. If it's not filled in, paste it in from the clipboard (Ctrl V).
See comment #273! Netflix all over again, starting some crap and then backpedaling.
One excellent point that I saw earlier is that when a torrent client takes a crap and loses all of the torrents, we would have to go hunt down each one from the website again. I can't imagine the misery. I'm rotationally seeding about 150 torrents, several of then ten gigs or more, and if I lost them all I doubt I'd hunt them all down again. I'd simply stop seeding them. I don't have six hours to search for them all again. However, with the actual torrent files on my hard drive, it's a snap to restart them. This happened to me less than a week ago. I opened Bittorrent and it was totally empty, like a new install. In a panic I googled it and found out that it happens sometimes, and that if my resume.dat was bad I'd have to manually restart them. It was, and I did. But if I'd have had to go doing search after search on the website, I'm afraid there'd be a couple dozen people missing out on the Irving Klaw Classics and much much more.
To the magnet users who call us crybabies: If the shoe were on the other foot and they had suddenly dropped magnets, you'd be raising your fair share of hell, wouldn't you? Please don't be so disrespectful of your fellow citizens. And I'm not crying; I'm arguing and appealing using logic and reason, behaving respectably.
TPB, please reconsider and leave the option open for either method. Please. You don't hurt the people who prefer magnets, and you keep the rest of us all safe and warm and cozy. And that will improve seeding.
x30001wtm
For me personally, I am going to have to completely revamp how I manage my torrenting.
I browse the 'Bay, right mouse-click, save as, direct the torrent to my dedicated download server and off it goes. Now I can no longer do that - because a magnet isn't downloadable.
I can see how it is better for PB and for a lot of users, but I also take x3001wtm's point about seeding - I leave it to my download box, but a lot of people don't have the luxury. I will wait and see how things pan out.
But thanks. No doubt it was a lot of work.
Making this a hassle for no good reason.
PROBLEM WITH MAGNETS LINKS ARE FIXED BY UPGRADING YOUR TORRENT CLIENT!
If you use WINDOWS and do not have a problem with magnets, you have no place to tell others with difficulties to stop whining. The people that are NOT using Windows/uTorrent, for a greater part, are the people that provide scene-released torrents, such as TV shows, current movies, etc. from *nix servers and seedboxes that are NOT magnet-friendly.
If their ability to supply data to start with is damaged, you won't be downloading anything new because it just will not be here in the first place. And even if you do, you think magnets are slow to load now, wait until shitty home isp connections are the only seeders.
With any luck, this move will "force" the creators of currently non-compatible software to integrate it in their next release. Until then, this move has only scratched the surface of its consequences.
If you're not sure what to do with magnet links, visit:

Thanks for the years of fun... it was great.
To all those who are throwing a big fit over the switch, go use a (and I'm shouting this for a reason here) DIFFERENT FUCKING SITE FOR YOUR SHIT!!!!!!! Or deal with it. That is all.
P.S. you underestimated the generosity of Americans a simple donate link would have eradicated any issues you had
Tixati, as of now, may be the only straight forward way to go in terms of which bit torrent client to use when dealing with magnet links.
' 350mb in under 6 min.
Rude magnet users - Calling the rest of us whining bitches and crybabies is not constructive to the issue. If magnets had suddenly been dropped, I'm sure you guys would be raising your fair share of hell right now.
TPB - You say that "Magnets are simply another way to download the torrent." But we need the actual torrent file for restarts. You'll devastate seeding (see my comments in #492) because the vast majority of people won't bother with hunting down torrents again, or learning to use Relocate (even if their clients do provide for it). You've got to stop now and reverse the announcement and continue providing torrent files before this madness ruins the greatest torrent site ever. You're the only torrent site many of us trust. Don't do this to us. Please.
RazorRape made a good point in comment
RazorRape made a good point in comment #485 - From the legal threats page: "0 torrents has been removed, and 0 torrents will ever be removed". Make it so, Number One.

I hope TPB will find a way of addressing this issue.

GOOD JOB GUYS KEEP LEAVING TPB LOL
It's kind of annoying, anyone know how to fix it ?
You can't push progress. If magnet was better all you had to do would be to give the option and it would eventually overtake torrent files.
TPB is where I'm used to finding stuff, but I guess I'll have to evolve... and learn to use other torrent sites instead...
An end of an era indeed...
Yeah, I've always used TPB and always loved it, but now I guess I have to move on to another site, anyone has one to recommend ?
"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (magnet) isn't associated with any program."
No, I can't just look through the list and "associate" uTorrent with magnet links, because the magnet protocol isn't there in Firefox.
I have to add the url to the magnet link in uTorrent with "Add url from torrent" or something.
I won't beat about the bush - Pirate Bay just lost a user. Fuck this shit.
A BIT OF GOOD NEWS FOR .TORRENT FILE PEOPLE...
I can still get the normal torrent file no matter what!
This works on Bittorrent. Everyone else, your torrent client might have something similar:
RIGHT click the magnet link and do "Copy URL to Clipboard"
Go to Bittorrent and do File / Add Torrent from URL / OK
The magnet link from the cliboard should already be filled in. If not, paste it in (CTRL V). Next, say OK and let it start at whatever default crap it wants while you browse in Windows Explorer to:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Bittorrent
As soon as Bittorrent retrieves the file data, it will CREATE THE TORRENT FILE in that directory!
Continued below due to the 1000 character limit...
.
A BIT OF GOOD NEWS FOR .TORRENT FILE PEOPLE... (Continued)
Now go back to Bittorrent and delete that torrent altogether. It will NOT delete the .torrent file it just created. So, just copy the .torrent file to wherever you want to permanently keep it, then drag it into Bittorrent and drop it. Shazaam! You get all the options you've ever had: What files to get, and where to save them. Same as if you had downloaded the .torrent file...
Except! There are ZERO trackers! At least, in the one I just did. Under Trackers all it lists are DHT, Local Peer Discovery, and Peer Exchange. All three say Working and the torrent is downloading fine.
Hope this helps.
x30001wtm
.
ONE MORE HELPFUL THING...
No need to browse to that Bittorrent data directory each time. Browse to it once in Windows Explorer, and size the Windows Explorer window so you can see a bit of the desktop behind it.
Now RIGHT click on the Bittorrent folder name, and HOLD the button down as you drag it to the desktop. Let go. Select "Create shortcuts here". A new shortcut is created. I renamed mine to Bittorrent Data.
At this point you can leave it on your desktop forever, or drag it over the Start button and hold Shift while you let go, which will move it to the Start menu.
Continued below...
.
ONE MORE HELPFUL THING... (Continued)
Either way, when you launch that shortcut it will open a simple single pane Windows Explorer window with all the torrent files in that directory listed. Sort by Date and you'll see the newest one at either the top or the bottom. You can copy torrents from here to the full Windows Explorer window with simple drag and drop like any other files. Just don't accidentally MOVE them... COPY :)
Remember: The .torrent file won't be created until Bittorrent recovers the file data, so watch the Files list in the running (magnet) torrent until the file names fill in, then delete that torrent entirely and follow the above steps.
Hope this helps.

Anyone complaining about it ruining their set ways have to adapt to the change and should just grow up and be happy that they can still torrent the stuff they want.
Hopefully the people that can't handle this change are the same people that fill up the cracked game pages with incessant complaining that the torrents are broken because they can't get it to work -- and leave.
Magnets = Death of millions of PC's and yes i have a very good Anti-Virus and spyware programmes, but they are not 100% as anyone with half a brain cell will know.
You either need to update your torrent client to the latest version, fiddle with the settings or if that doesn't sort it you need a new torrent client!
I personally recommend Tixati. It not only allows you to do the above but it can create a torrent file in a folder you specify every time you start a transfer.
As it's quite clear from previous comments, Windows users who seed from their HDD can get around this with a barely acceptable amount of hassle if they don't want all the files a download. That sucks a bit.
But you just took away the point of owning a NAS that SEEDS files all day and all night. If I can't get the NAS to download without installing a torrent client, wait a couple of minutes and then manually copy a file, I'll just end up downloading it on the computer and copy it to the NAS when it's done. End result: I don't seed. Everybody loses. That sucks ass.
You now officially suck TPB. The courts scared you badly enough this time so you gave in and showed yourselves to be the cowards that I always knew you were. All the big talk in front of the cameras and at the press conferences was nothing more than that. And to make matters worse you insult our intelligence by labeling this chicken shit move of yours as progress.
And seriously now, quoting Bible scriptures? Get the fuck off of it.
Fuck you and your fucking magnet links you Swedish fucking faggots.
The url goes to utorrent site
So piratebay supports utorrent
utorrent is good but it isn't open source !
Can thepiratebay recommend an open source client that handles magnet links good ?
Magnets are slower. I am getting consistent 3Mbps tests to servers all over the US & 1.5Mbps up. Torrent file starts almost instantly using no Trackers. Finished in 5 minutes. Identical torrent downloaded by Magnet link is on it's third hour at 9kbps. Two others with dozens of Seeds connected and hundreds of Seeds in the swarm have not even started yet.
I'm using uTorrent 3.1.2, there is no problem with my torrent client, Magnets are intrinsically slower, plain and simple.
Also the long startup time means that I have to walk away and hope to come back after the download has started (who knows when that is) so that I can select and prioritize my files.
My Android device had to switch to a newer, less functional torrent client to use magnet links. Many users will be left in the cold by this move. Maybe they do not contribute, except I believe that everyone contributes. I'd rather everyone used torrents. If we keep making it harder, novices will give up and tha
If we keep making it harder, novices will give up and that makes it easier to isolate and vilify us as a group. And that's sad.
My meager uploads will die the sad lonely death of no Seeds without torrent file hosting. Magnet links are inferior for rare files and they slow the seeding process. They generate excess traffic and are overall bad for the performance of the network.
Keeping the torrent files available in the network actuallyshould be great, but eliminating the original torrent links themselves is a bad decision right now.
I love The Pirate Bay and I love these guys and the whole community for what we have done, but this is caving to paranoia and threats.
This is a step backwards. The corporate fascists win.
I guess I'd better start looking for a new network.
utorrent is disgustingly slow in fetchin data through magnet links
so had to look elsewhere
please try qBittorrent it is surprisinly fast in fetching data through magnet links
checkout portableapps.com
get qbittorrent portable
copy "GET THIS TORRENT" link from piratebay
in qbittorent goto "File" goto "Add link to torrent..."
hopefully qbittorrent will have captured the link
click "Download"
Hope I have helped ;)
you got nothin to lose
qbittrent is Free / Open Source = no risk
Been looking but no one is as good as TPB -.-
it will accept either a torrent file, or a url. i copy the magnet url from right clicking it and putting it in as a url in the nas's BT client but nothing happens
starting to seriously wind me up now, give me back my torrent file download
BUT
it turns red because theres no http trackers in it, just udp???
i just get invalid urls (cos theyre not http?) i actually have to use torrentz to find the exact file im downloading and use their trackerlist to manually add them into my torrent in utorrent, kinda defeats the purpose of using piratebay?
Why do you kids feel so entitled?
OMG I HAVE TO WAIT A MINUTE BEFORE I CAN CHOOSE FILES TO DOWNLOAD THIS SITE IS THE WORST NOW ETC ETC IM AN IGNORANT KID WHOS FEELS ENTITLED TO WHINE AND BITCH ABOUT FREE THINGS ON A WEBSITE WITH FREE ACCESS.
You're just being laughed at
Wait, you are whining about somebody whining?
How about acknowledging that Magnet links do not work as reliably, or as easily, or as quickly as torrent files?
Just because uneducated people whine about it, doesn't make them wrong.
ThePirateBay is now useless for many of the devices it used to serve. NAS boxes are a really big deal since they can't be easily upgraded and this will cost us a lot of Seeders.
Comment areas are a place for people to have their voices heard. If you don't like that, then don't read comments.
This move really sucks for a lot of people and it is going to hurt the file-sharing community overall. Complaining about it here is our only way of posting feedback for this.
Magnet links are lame. Getting in people's faces and being insulting because they stated their opinions (even if they did so poorly) is pointless, unhelpful and rude.

Torrent files are faster than Magnet links. That alone will drive people away from this site.
Being thankful for what we get and being annoyed that the quality of service is declining are not mutually exclusive. This is a huge step backwards for many users.
That's all.
You are STILL using torrents.
Magnet links technically do not work by themselves.
Instead of getting the torrent file from TPB directly you are simply getting it from your peers. And magnet links are what do this.
This is extremely important.
An emergency backup file of TPB website would be absolutely HUGE if that file contained all the actual torrents.
It would probably be 100 gigabytes for just the torrents alone.
Now for the magnet links alone, that back up file would be about 1 gigabyte. And that would be for a nicely organized list (such as an .xl file) that can be processed by appropriate software.
TPB claims that they are saving lots of bandwidth.
And I believe them.
They believe in decentralization. And this is the way to do it.
And, by the way, TPB still gives away the torrent if it has no peers sharing it. But that doesn't matter anyway.
IF THERE ARE NO SEEDERS YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET THE ACTUAL FILE ANYWAY (REG
Magnet links (and torrents using DHT protocol) are nothing more than a new and improved P2P system.
1. It's maximum speed is faster than ed2k links, for example.
2. You can share a folder of files. (And you can pick and choose which files you want if you don't want all of them.) With ed2k you can only share one file at a time. You can put a folder in a zip file but then you can't pick and choose from it. If the file is greater than 4GB it won't fit on a FAT32 harddrive.
3. It's more decentralized than ed2k (and other p2p sytems).
Free and open P2P filesharing is the future!
The links (and a catalog of the links) live on , even if the source website is gone.
TPB is not switching to magnet links because they are afraid of the "feds". They are doing it because its the right thing to do.
Thank you TPB for pushing technology in the right direction and helping the people.
Your contribut
That being said, magnet links have worked fine for me since the change, and it's very simple to select just the files you want to download... ALTHO coming on today, magnet files don't seem to work, they just keep timeing out and not letting me add them to my download manager
C:Users[YOURUSERNAME]Application Data[YOURTORRENTCLIENT]
In that folder, there is/are torrent/s inside. If you have problems going in "Application Data", you need to take Ownership to do so. Hope this helps! ;)
Or ya just do what I been doing since having the magnet links timing out..
I just take the info hash and download the .torrent file and run it that way
**(Problems with magnets links are fixed by upgrading your torrent client!)**
Why not download ??????
it freaking good with magnet links
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR PLEASE!!!
The Vuze is a bit unstable with magnets if you activate magnetlinks through your browser.
A great thing with TPB´s new service is the Harsfiles provided.
1. Open Vuze
2. Copy the text and numbers in the Hars info at TPB download page
3. Click open torrent in Vuze and choose > open URL
4. Past the hars after the magnet info
5. Hit ok....
BECAUSE I CANNOT SEE WHAT IS IN THE BASTARD FILE, MY SYSTEM GETS ANOTHER TROJAN..
I wonder if TPB will refund the cost of repairing it?? Like fuck they will, yet its caused by them as people now feel the need to add a virus to a torrent.
What The Pirate Bay is doing is more than what you ever done in your life, so stop fucking complaining and grow a pair.
esto no termina solo hay una pausa..
un gran abraso MAURICIO VILLEGAS-
You get a trojan, complain and say will piratebay pay the repair costs??
A- With magnet links it is easy to see what files are in the torrent..
B- You complain because TPB is allowing you access to things for FREE rather than paying for them?
As for people complaining about having to change their torrent programs.. eg Bittorrent, Utorrent etc...
Programs like that are shit... get yourself FlashGet 3.7, it's not a torrent program but a download manager.
Not only does it download torrent files, but you can go to websites with playable videos (eg Youtube) and can download the video to your computer at the click of a button. Downloading a large file from a website? It can do that and allows you the pause the download and pick up where it left off..
Got a page full of images you want to save? It can do all of them at the click of a button for ya also.
I have been stumped for hours on how to get the magnet links to load on my Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3. I use to be a fan of TPB but since the change over to magnet links I'm losing interest. My problem is that I can access TPB through a proxy (ex: secrethallway.com or awerproxy.com) but when I load the PB page of what I want to download and click the link nothing happens. I'm using Safari V 5.1.3. The magnet link is dead and nothing happens on my computer. I'm trying to use Transmission, but am fine with using uTorrent. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks,
Slayer4ya
Use the Hars info - cut and past into your clients "open torrent > open URL and wait until the magnetfil loads. Now you can choose what you want to dl as usual.
Download vuze - it´s a pain, but it worx.
Safari is not compatible with magnets. Use Firefox.
1. In Options/Preferences/Directories, check "Store .torrents in:" and pick a location.
2. Start a download with a magnet link
3. Once the list of files appears in the Files tab, stop the download.
4. Delete the torrent from the main window.
5. Go to the "Store .torrents" folder and restart the torrent using the appropriate .torrent file. You'll get the usual dialog with the ability to select the files you want to download.
Hopefully BitTorrent will release a new client that automates this process soon! I often download ebook torrents with hundreds or thousands of files, most of which I don't want.
I use .torrents because I search my downloads on my laptop but I let my mediacentre desktop download them automatically!!
Please Please Please get them back? I'll have to switch sites because of this...
Also it gives me a backup of what I have downloaded..
With regards,
Bram
I wasn't addressing you, i was addressing TPB, so if you wish to get your nose caught in a door that has fuck all to do with you, expect it to get cut off alright!!.
Again, fuck off and keep your nose out of where its not wanted, welcome or needed.
Goodbye.
Watch out, we got a badass over here.
A) People with Mac/Apple computers need to watch it. Whether or not they tell you, they watch your online/download activity. Too much and they'll come and screw you over.
B) Magnet links should download fine with your old torrent client. To those who cry because you can't click for it to download on your laptop and then have it go to your desktop, cry me a river. Set it up differently and you'll be fine.
C) To those who are getting viruses.... Put a fucking anti-virus on your computer, problem solved.
D) Long live the Pirate Bay!!!
"...A) People with Mac/Apple computers need to watch it. Whether or not they tell you, they watch your online/download activity. Too much and they'll come and screw you over. ..."
What?
How does that work exactly?
And who is "they"? ("They" could mean people at Apple, your ISP, your local government...etc..)
The only solution that worked. I never needed Firefox, as I am able to do the following procedure instead:
1) download Vuze
2) go to TPB through proxy (I'm out of North America for now)
3) find my desired torrent
4) copy info hash
5) go back to Vuze and go to - file > open > torrentfile > add url > paste info hash
6) select which files I want to download
There, thats what I did to solve my mac issue. Hope this helps other people trying to fix this problem. Special thanks to "#579. anoints".
Cheers,

Then here's a quick PHP script for generating a torrent containing a magnet, which you can place in your torrent watch directory.
function makeTorrentFromMagnet($magnet)
{
return “d10:magnet-uri”.strlen($magnet).”:$magnet”.”e”;
}
I'll assume if you're smart enough to have gone through that guide, you'll be smart enough to apply that function. The way I did it is with an HTML form that accepts a double-linebreak delimited list of magnets and a path relative to the torrent watch directory, it then loops through all the magnets and writes the torrents to the watch directory, they're then picked up by rtorrent's torrent watcher. I use a webUI to access rtorrent so this is handy for me. You could also write, say, a bash script to do what the script do
But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain, ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker? Did you ever wonder what made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him?
I am a hacker, enter my world...
Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most of the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me...
Damn underachiever. They're all alike.
I'm in junior high or high school. I've listened to teachers explain for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction. I understand it. "No, Ms. Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in my head..."
Damn kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.
I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me... Or feels threatened by me.. Or thinks I'm a smart ass.. Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here...
Damn kid. All he does is play
Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...
You bet your ass we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few that had something to teach found us willing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert.
This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us cr
Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.
I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual, but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.
People have a right to not like this, whether or not their educated about computers (I'm a network manger at a major hospital). First there is only 1 program that will find all peers (1.5-3mbps) LimewirePro. It is not shut-down, older versions work just fine-with TORRENTS! All other P2P's suck. To acknowledge the smartasses, yes there are ways around it, but its too time consuming even for me, let alone normal people who are not techs. So do this and nothing else, get Limewirepro at http://kat.ph/limewire-pro-5-5-16-crack-hb-t4521145.html ,then use KickassTorrents for your downloads. -Etra special hint_ KickassTorrents is not as well indexed as TPB, but they do have them, search TPB then copy the torrents key words and paste to KATorrents. See just 1 step (after you get Limewire of course)
Do you think this will affect the amount of seeders? I, like many others can no longer seed because EVERYTHING is on my NAS.
C:UsersuserAppDataRoamingAzureustorrents
"...Sorry i'm a bit confused... where do i find this "hars info"?..."
That's a mistake. He means "hash info" or "info hash".
Look at the 40 character hexadecimal number printed on every "details for this torrent" page.
It is under the label "Info Hash:".
But Nothings Happening? Ive left it like that for 5-10min???
no that doesnt sound like any hassle at all...
sorry i love u guys, but i really dont need that extra hassle in my life, i think ill just go to demonoid till i can be arsed taking that course in information technology that ive been putting off for 15 years...
love mashy.
"They" meaning the Apple company would get in with the government and basically say, "Hey, IP address such and such has had such and such download activity from such and such as site". It would then get added to some list to get checked out.
It's fine to download from an Apple computer, but it'd be a good precaution to use proxies, especially for Mac users. Even I, using Windows, use proxies so I can't get screwed.
Yes, proxies can be backlogged by government, but it's more of an annoyance than anything else. The chances of that ever happening are slim.
Explanation over :)
still: amazing the bitching and whining going on about a service that is provided absolutely FREE.
anyone still using Vuse, download Miro. Miro handles magnets just fine.
my thanks still go out to TPB for the service they have provided for almost 10 years
mejor imposible....gracias por la coloboracion, estaremos colaborando con ustedes de igual forma
GOOD NEWS.... ! I thought I couldnt download movies with magnet link and utorrent 1.7 or 1.8, but it is possible, no problem. Listen: Open in utorrent File, then Add torrent from URL, what you write in the box is NOT the url of the page with the movie from TPB, but instead you right hand click on the magnet link and go to Properties, the URL there is the one you copy and paste as the URL they ask, then the download starts immediately, no problem.
